Twenty-oh-Five

Ahh... The year that was.

A very chaotic and histrionic twenty-oh-five.

No need to rehash the drama, the disappointments, the frustrations of the year that was.

Because I learned so much this year.

Because I was given so many second chances.

Because I was lucky enough and strong enough to emerge in one piece.

Because it was also a very surprisingly happy and joyous twenty-oh-five.

Thank you, twenty-oh-five. You broke my heart over and over again, but you also gave me my friends and family to help me get through it.

Bring it on, 2006!

I'm waiting, and I'm ready :)

Mga Plak-plak

With our exchanged gifts :)Been a long time since I heard the term plak-plak -- I will only hear this when I'm with my high school friends. [Ayan ha, if ever one of my high school friends reads this, friends tayo di lang tayo classmates hihiihihi]

Again, the last time I saw this group of people was during my wedding. :) I had dinner with them the same day I had lunch at Gayuma. Hehe, karirin ang mga friendly reunions in one day.

There were lots of food (two Yellow Cab pizza, a kilo of pasta, potato salad, ham and cheese roll, barbeque from Dannylicious, lechong manok and Goldilocks' "classic" choco roll), drinks (Ang-sarap! wine, Mudslide, 1.5 litre of San Mig Pale, bottles of San Mig Lite, Tequila Rose and Toska Vodka -- Naomi claims walang lasa daw kasi pure, sabi ko baka pure kerosene na yan ha), gossiping (lalo na yung mga absentees, talagang pinagtsismisan!), storytelling (a wedding and a break-up) and lots of singing (salamat sa MagicMic)!

Too bad I was still the Cinderella of the group and had to be home by 12 midnight. But before I left, I gave them a matinding rendition of Huwag Mo Nang Itanong by the Eraserheads and got a score of 97! Wooohoo! The highest score ever before I left the place. [Sana walang nakabeat ng high score ko!]

---

Seeing them reminds me how much I've changed (I was the dorkiest in the group, but I was the first to get knocked-up :P), how much we've accomplished after all these years, how much we've all grown up, but I could still see that nothing's changed with our friendship, and it's comforting in a way, to know that something from your childhood is still a living and breathing entity, and will never be lost.

For more than 10 years (we became a group during our second year in high school - that's around 1994-1995, shoot, bistado ang edad ko nito hehe), kahit meron ng college friends, college barkada, orgmates, labmates, officemates at kung sinu-sino pang group of people, never nawala ang high school friends sa aming vocabulary. I could not ask for a better high school barkada! Here's to 2006, for all of us!

Lunch @ Gayuma

Lunch @ GayumaAfter 10,000 long years, Kat, Trace and I finally got together again. The last time we were together was during my wedding! Haaay... it really has been too long :)

The highlight of this lunch was an announcement from Trace: She's getting married! ^_^

I'm so happy for her! And a little envious, because her boyfriend proposed to her in front of thousands (ahm sige hundreds lang) of people during her boyfriend's office Christmas party! Kakilig!

So most of lunch was spent brainstorming, giving tips and ideas, and just plain getting excited about the wedding! Of course, Kat will coordinate the wedding, as she did mine also, and she regrets not having a notebook with her: "Di ko alam meeting na pala ito eh". Haha, I remember those lunches and dinners Kat and I had, wherein we set an hour to talk as friends ["O sige, friends muna, game ano na yung kuwento mo?"], then after that, talk wedding business na ["Asan na yung pinapagawa kong CD/guestlist/souvenirs/table assignments?"]. Hehe.

Cheers to us girls! We'll definitely be seeing each other more this coming 2006!

My SideBlog - Back from the Grave

I used to have a SideBlog for the Kuwentong Litrato part in my sidebar, but last year when there were talks of it going kaput, I stopped using it. I didn't want to get used to using something then just have it taken away. [Hmmm... I think that statement says a lot about my guiding principles in life :P]

I just noticed that as time passed by, dontpanicitsorganic and sedricke were still using their SideBlog. Cool, that meant SideBlog survived! I just didn't know then, with my previous layout, where or how I was going to use my SideBlog.

And so, with the new layout and everything, I'm resurrecting my SideBlog for Libro, Kanta and Pelikula portions of the sidebar. It's now under one "header" -- Kinagigiliwan. Easier for me, because I don't have to edit the template every time I'm obsessing about a new book, song or film. I just have to post from SideBlog, and voila, Kinagigiliwan is updated!

---

Yes, I'm getting obsessive about this template/layout thing. I think I still have a few tricks to implement.

Toodles!

UltraelectromagneticJam - The Late Review

UltraelectromagneticJamI'm writing/posting this review almost a month after the album was launched. And that's almost a month of me listening and trying to appreciate all the covers done by the artists in the album.

Eventhough there are a few misses in the album, I'll still sum it up with one word: Coolness.

Some of my favorite tracks:

Superproxy2K6 by FrancisM

A reversal of roles: Francis "sings" the lead, while Ely Buendia does the rap part. [And can I just say nakakalaglag-panty pa rin si Ely?] This version sounds harder, edgier, more metal than the earlier one -- or maybe that was just Francis trying to sing? :P Hehe, kidding aside, I heart-very-much this version. It rocked before, and it's still rocking now.

Spoliarium by Imago

I'll admit it, I heard the Imago version first before the Eraserheads version =s So spank me why don't you!?! Haunting, sad and lost -- the essence of the original was beautifully enhanced. One of the most repeated tracks on my CD.

Alcohol by Radioactive Sago Project

One of the cooler tracks on the CD. RSP lends their "narrative" signature to this song and sobrang bagay talaga. I guess when you're drunk you're bound to sing ala RSP. Hehe.

Ang Huling El Bimbo by Rico J. Puno

Can you say perfect match? The mala-maniac song sung by the uber mala-maniac himself. Hearing "Naninigas ang aking katawan" uttered by Rico J gave me the heebie-jeebies - but in a good way because it meant he sung it with feelings. Hehe.

---

Other notable tracks are Maling Akala by Brownman Revival and Huwag Kang Matakot by Orange and Lemons.

My thoughts on the others: Kitchie Nadal's Ligaya was so-so -- I think it lacked male energy and male lust [malamang, kasi female sya :P]. Overdrive by Barbie Almabis was erm, not something I'd expect from her. Spongecola's Pare Ko was okay -- had the angst and all, but this is a signature Eheads song, so there will be comparisons, and the cover will always sound second-rate. Alapaap by 6 Cycle Mind felt like there was something missing. With a Smile by South Border totally missed the point -- it's a ballad done by a rock band, so they should've gotten a really punk/metal band to cover this song! Paolo Santos on Magasin -- please lang wag na sana maulit!!!!

The Eraserheads songs I wished were part of this tribute album: Kailan, Fine Time, Kamasupra, Sembreak and Yoko. I know, almost all of the songs I mentioned comes from the Cutterpillow album, and yes, it's my favorite album from the band.

Is this album for poser Eheads fans only? I'm no poser -- I genuinely loved their music and their poetry. This album is for reminiscing, remembering my high school and boys and Math homeworks and school fairs and variety shows and trying to learn the guitar by learning the chords of Magasin. And having the adult frame of mind to look back on everything with wistfulness, realizing, "I'm all grown-up".

And, as one reviewer said, after listening to this CD, "you'd wish that the band was together again, at least even for one reunion gig."

Tweaking

Installed a Shoutbox for tagging purposes. I had a hard time last night customizing my shoutbox. So many themes, so many choices, so little time to decide!

Implemented some JavaScript tricks from here to see if it will make my sidebar look a lot less cluttered.

Nope, not really satisfied. Gusto kong ibalik sa dati! The visitor won't really know there's a submenu hiding behind the "Tara, yosi tayo?" and "The Filipina Movement" words. So, hindi naman talaga nila iki-click and makikita yung menu under that. [Well, now that you know, go ahead and click the damn words! :P] I don't want to put a "Click here..." note, but it looks like I might have to.

Still a lot of tweaking to do. Toodles!

The Girl Loves The Camera

Photos taken by herself! Astig diba? Nan-trip ng camera kagabi while I was tweaking with my layout hehehe.

---

At sana by Thursday eh matapos at okay na yon lahat.

New Layout

Hmm... so I've got a new layout.

Been wanting to do an overhaul of the layout for months now but I've been too busy to go about it. Oh well, thank you Christmas holidays :)

I think I still have a little tweaking to do here and there.

Haven't had the time to look at the codes, though.

So, any violent reactions, suggestions and comments regarding my new layout?

P.S. I scrapped my HaloScan commenting system. Blogger comments nako :)

Are You Ready to Par-tay?!?

First there was the company Christmas party with a rock theme at Phi Bar in Metrowalk.

Rock!Wigging OutAldoEmployee of the MonthTina Turner

Then came the IS Christmas party with a Hollywood theme.

There was a "little competition" going on between the different IS teams -- with little meaning it was just a small cash prize of 1500.00 pesos. The IS teams of MMS, FMS, and HRMS joined together to do a rendition of the famous John Travolta-Olivia Newton-John movie Grease. We did four songs in all, to capture the essence and gist of the movie: Summer Nights, Greased Lightning, You're the One that I Want, and We Go Together.

Entrance PoseGo, Greased Lightnin'I got chills, they're multiplyin', and I'm losin' controlYou're the one that I wantWaooo Yeah!

The other teams did Austin Powers, Rent and Footloose.

Oooh, and guess who won the "little competition"?

Congrats Grease Lightning! The Winning Team!ketket and mj fools around with the clapperOur clapper award

The winning factor in our presentation? Well, turns out all the judges are "wise beyond their years" [read: old] and they were familiar with the movie Grease :P Hahaha. That movie was shown in 1978 and I guess they were teenagers back then hehe.

Last Thursday, we splurged on Jollibee breakfast meals with our winning money, and had a last get-together with the FMS and HRMS teams. We watched our award-winning performance on video, and chills went up my spine - nakakahiya kasi ang sayaw ko hahahah :D

Then came the most awaited day of the week: Lechon Day on Friday!

Siomai for Breakfast!Lechon! Lechon! Lechon!PancitPurple Plate DistributionKuha na ng Pagkain!

Yes, we got to have lechon for our Christmas office party last Friday! Woohoo! Thank you Leonardo's for our great food :D We had pancit, dinuguan, lechon paksiw, lumpiang ubod, puto't kutsinta and siomai! Ang daming pagkain talaga!!!

Sorry if some of the pics are blurred. I had already downed three glasses of Vodka Sprite by lunch time :P Thanks Ton for the Vodka!

Good thing today's a holiday. I'm all partied out. Got sick for a while last Saturday, so I wasn't really able to enjoy Noche Buena. But I did make it to my parents' house yesterday all perked up already :)

Hope you guys had a great weekend :)

...you're so pretty, coz your hair is so kinky (kulot)

-- from Juphel, overall guru and philosopher of our batch

KulotAy oo nga pala, I got my hair permed last weekend.

After deliberating for the longest time where to have my hair curled, I decided on Bench Fix salon because they had relatively cheaper rates (but more expensive than your friendly neighborhood-corner parlor hehe).

The whole process took around 3 1/2 hours, from the initial shampoo to the winding of the hair to the curl processing then a hair spa to soften and moisturize the curls.

Not quite the curls I had in mind, but I'm slowly warming up to it. I just need to have lots of patience when I'm styling it after I take a bath -- if I don't style it, my hair magically transforms into an afro hairdo hehe.

And the reactions of the madlang people! :D I've been given lots of compliments by my officemates, mere acquaintances and complete strangers!

The most unexpected compliment: HBC in Metrowalk. I was buying a generic shampoo for another do-it-yourself project I was undertaking. While I was paying for the shampoo:

Cashier (guy? or maybe badesh?): Ang ganda naman ng hair mo! Kinurling iron mo lang yan?
Me: Ay hindi, perm talaga yan.
Cashier: Ah talaga? Puedeng pahawak?

Hahahahaha! Close tayo?!?!

Well, I did let him touch my hair :P

The next phase of this kulot project would be to find the perfect kulot shampoo, conditioner and styling product. I've been using Pantene Leave-on Conditioner to soften my hair and to create the Goldilocks-curl effect (and to prevent the afro thing going on). I also have the Citre Shine curling gel, but haven't used that one yet. I need an anti-frizzing formula for my kulot hair! The frizzies are worse but not too noticeable anymore because of the kulot-ness of my hair.

Anybody have any suggestions for kulot hair care products? :)

Puede bang itigil mo na ang pag-ikot ng mundo?

Not feeling so Christmas-y lately, even though I did those scrub sets last weekend.

Must be those damn hormones.

It feels sadder, lonelier, emptier during the holidays.

Although I enjoy the shopping, hunting for gifts, doing my d.i.y. projects, I still feel that come Christmas eve, I will be sorely disappointed, and Christmas morning will be spent drying and hiding my tears.

Or maybe it's because I expect too much?

Or maybe the pressure to be happy on Christmas day?

Puede namang hindi masaya pag Pasko diba?

I forgot how it is to be a kid, giggling and excited during Christmas Eve Mass, waiting forever for the Noche Buena, then tearing through our gifts. Christmas was so simple then.

Now I don't have anything to be excited about. If it's anything, I'm kind of dreading the day.

Bah, humbug.

Scrubbed

It's the weekend before Christmas, and I finally got around to doing the body scrub set I've been planning to give my girl friends this Christmas.

Banig BoxesI got a bunch of banig boxes (for free!!!) last September -- they were supposed to be used for our company anniversary party invitations, but the supplier gave only half of our orders, so we used sinamay bags instead, and we were left with a couple of banig boxes for nothing. Thinking ahead that I could use those boxes for something come Christmas, I asked my committee leader if I could have a couple (meaning around 40 boxes) for me to take home, and she agreed, so yippee!

Body scrubs are relatively easy to make: one only needed a granular exfoliant element, a moisturizing element, and a scent for aromatherapy effects.

Body ScrubsAnd last weekend, I concocted up three variants of body scrubs: brown sugar body scrub, an oatmeal body scrub, and a coffee body scrub. I then used olive oil as the moisturizing element in the body scrubs.

The basic recipe is 1:4 ratio of oil to exfoliant. If you think the mixture is too "granular" then go ahead and add more oil.

Tagged Body ScrubsFor the scents, since I wasn't able to find cinnamon and lavender extracts or essential oils, I bought scented massage oil from Zen Zest. Peppermint for the coffee scrub (ala Starbucks peppermint coffee drinks! Hehe), and lavender for the oatmeal scrub. I was able to find vanilla extract at the supermarket, so that went into the brown sugar scrub.

Then I did a little Photoshop-ping to create the tags with the name of the body scrub and the instructions for use. Used left-over red crochet thread to tie up the tags.

Body Scrubs in Banig Boxes 2Each banig box contained a brown sugar scrub, an oatmeal scrub and a coffee scrub. I had leftover pink scraps from a skirt I ripped up a few months ago and used that as "bedding" for the scrub bottles. I didn't want my bottles rolling around helplessly inside the banig box.

I made 16 sets all in all -- gifts for my girl office mates, college buddies and some relatives.

I was kind of worried that costs for the scrubs would amount to 100 pesos per set, but I think I overestimated. I only used half of the oats, coffee and brown sugar I bought, and about a fourth of the bottle of massage oils I bought for Zen Zest. Bottles were bought at Tabora in Divisoria for 10 pesos per piece. And since the banig boxes were free, I think I was able to do it at less than 50 pesos per set :)

Haay... I'm all scrubbed out! Toodles!

Rock FuSZion

Hard Rock meets Hippie RockAs expected, a lot of people came as hard metal rockers during our rock-themed Christmas party. I was the only one who thought of going as a hippie rocker, cool!

For the meantine, some pictures here. Still in the process of collecting pictures from other cameras.

Toodles!

[Andrei as a hard-rocking dude, and me as a spaced-out hippie dudette!]

1185 in 168

1185
I didn't specify the prices of the other items because I'll be giving them away as gifts :P The other items are mine.

P1185 in 168 Mall in Divisoria goes a long, long, long way!

That amount of money was able to buy 3 necklaces (perfect for my hippie look for our Christmas party!), 17 pairs of earrings (10 pairs of earrings for only 35 freaking pesos?!?! I'm giving 5 each for my little cuzzins), 2 bracelets (one each for my best college friends), 6 coin purses (might give one each to my best college friends, might keep two for myself also), 2 pairs of flip-flops (my sister made me buy her 6 pairs for a total of 300 bucks as my Christmas present to her), and a pair of beaded gold/copper sandals for myself.

I did good, if I do say so myself. Hehe.

Other items I bought not included in the picture: 2 shiny metallic-colored scarves for 50 bucks each, a pack-of-3 Dora undies for 100 pesos [obviously, I bought this for Darice], a purple jacket for 250 pesos, and a copper/bronzy bag for 350 pesos.

Yes, the 13th month pay is slowly dwindling away.

Smashin' Rockin'

Christmas party season again.

For our company party, we're "encouraged" [because of the FuSZion Sportsfest -- more about that in future posts] to dress as smashin' rockin' rock stars.

Oh-kaaaaaay.

Remember last year I had a hard time choosing my costume?

I'm still having a hard time this year :P

I would loooooove to go as Alanis Morissette [during her Jagged Little Pill days], but I would just look like an overweight Alanis. I don't want people pointing at me and saying "Tignan mo yung matabang Alanis, o"

I can go as Avril Lavigne but I think I might need to wear a tank top or sando, which will make my arms would look like dangerous weapons. No way.

I think I can pull off a Janis Joplin, but not too many people know her. I would looove to wear 70's hippie rock fashion!

Maybe I should go as a guy. I've been eyeing Slash's look and I'm thinking maybe I could do that. Might get a hat, and the yosi is a chicken :P Might have the perm this weekend to really complete the look. Oh, and lots of fake tattoos din siguro noh? Haaay, keri kaya 'to?

Help me out peeps!!! I need a smashin' rockin' costume by this weekend. The party's on December 13. Are my ideas okay already, or do you have any other smashin' rockin' ideas? :)

*TeeHeeHee*

I Want It That Way
I first heard about them with this video.

Then, thanks to her, I found out they had quite ah erm, a repertoire.

So I'll be seeing you guys on Saturday afternoon. Toodles!
