Daughters

I learned from my sister (who works in the same office as I do) that our dad was going to accompany her to the DFA, and that he was already waiting in a McDonald's right across our office.

Me: Pabili tayo ng McDo!

Youngie: Eh ako nga pupunta sa McDo.

M: Hay nako, magtetext ako, pupunta yon.

Y: Ikaw, sige.

M: *thinks* Malakas naman ako kay Daddy eh.

Y: Oo nga.

M: *evil smile* Ampon ka kasi eh! Hahahahah.

Y: GAGI!

[She used to be the bunso kasi, for 10 years. So we (my other sister and I) usually made her asar and made her cry when we were kids, saying she's not our real sister. Heh, I know, we're bad.]

So I sent Dad a text message.

Dadox, you're in McDo na daw? Can you buy me a quarter pounder meal go big time? Then sunduin niyo na lang si Young dito sa office!

His reply, after a few minutes:

The 9th Nine

... and it was that time of the month >:|

Kamusta naman yon diba?

Most probably, if it was just the two of us, since I was on the rag, during sexy time I might do most of the "work" which would be totally UNFAIR, right?

So we just decided to bring Darice with us :)

To where, you ask?

The Boutique Bed and Breakfast

Sick at 27

Yeah, just turned 27 and I am sick.

We have our theories that it could be food poisoning as I have the symptoms (diarrhea, nausea, abdominal cramps) and a friend of ours also have almost the same symptoms (vomiting, nausea), and we both ate at this fast food joint before we went home.

So spent the whole Tuesday in bed fighting the urge to poo and vomit while I slept the entire day. Then Wednesday, Dar even ordered pizza for me to eat, and I couldn't even finish a slice!!! So again, slept the entire day, as I was feeling dizzy with my headaches.

The Eventful Weekend

Darice had her first tooth fall out!!!

Well, not fall out, more of pulled out.

By me. Hehe.

I woke up Saturday morning with Darice doing her whiny cries and it was because her loose tooth was well, looser already. I looked at it and it seems that was only hanging by a (gum) thread. It was also starting to bleed, so I knew I had to act fast (she might whine louder when she sees the blood kasi).

I asked Dar to get some ice, so I can rub it on Darice's gum, to at least numb the gum area. After rubbing the ice on her gums for a few minutes, I grabbed the face towel, used it as a "glove" to hold Darice's loose tooth, and as my daughter shook in fear (and pain?) pulled out the tooth, in one smooth yet nerve-wracking motion.

She cried a bit, and her gums bled a bit too so I asked her to gargle. I asked her to bit on a cotton ball while Dar prepared her frozen delight. She absolutely loves the new Chuckie Choco Burst, and we store it inside the freezer, so Dar took one out, poured the frozen choco slush in a glass, and viola, Darice was smiling again! Minus one tooth. Hehe.

Now I'm waiting for her other upper front tooth to fall off :) Hehehe.

BoratFinally got to watch Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan after some prodding from Ton and validation from Pajiba.

Oh.

My.

God.

Kakaiba!!!

If you're not easily offended and if you totally get the point of this movie, then go ahead and watch it.

But if you're just going to complain and whine and sue Borat, stay away :P

Dar, Darice and I had lunch at my Mom's house the next day, Sunday. After eating, I went upstairs with Darice while Dar tried to diagnose their PC.

Then, my mom asked Dar and I to go downstairs to their room -- usap daw kami.

Parang ako, ano 'to?!?

I Feel Like It's Sunday Already

Yup, because I took a leave yesterday.

I was attacked by a weird case of hyperacidity Thursday afternoon.

I didn't eat lunch that day because I wasn't feeling hungry yet, and I usually pass up lunch and just eat during our 3pm break. I normally survive those little pangs of hunger around 2pm, but last Thursday, I thought I was going to faint from EXTREME hunger.

Having no energy to go down to the caf to get a bite to eat, I prepared a bowl of oatmeal using those little packets of ready-to-eat flavored ones. Ate that, and was still hungry.

3pm break came, and I bought two pieces of turon and mamon. Drank lots of water to fill me up.

But still freaking hungry!!!

Is-pey-syal

I was reviewing Darice for a test in CLE (Christian Living Education). The topic was, I think, "We are special because of God's love" [insert praise music here].

There was a part there about families, and each family being special.

And so I asked her, "Darice, what makes Papa special?"

"Hmmm... that he always gets mad?"

What the? I called D over and asked Darice the same question and she answered: "He always gets mad?"

I smirked at D, and he faced Darice, "Do I always get mad?"

Darice looked down. "I don't like it when you get mad eh", she said in a quiet voice.

"And I don't like it when you get mad at Mama and then Mama cries."

At sana by Thursday eh matapos at okay na yon lahat.

I'm off to a two-day training seminar at the MMLDC. I hope I won't get bored to death with all the talks and lectures there.

So I'll be seeing you guys on Saturday afternoon. Toodles!

Baby Blues

I guess the most important question [or the question that is asked most often], right after Darius and I got married, was this: Kelan nyo susundan si Darice?

And I have to answer with a disappointing NEVER.

No, there's nothing wrong with my reproductive system. As I know, my ovaries are healthily producing fertile eggs every month. Nope, there's nothing wrong with Dar's reproductive system too. Speedy and robust sperm cells are continually being produced as I write this.

There are two reasons why Darice will remain an only child:

Darius doesn't want to have another one,

and

Darice doesn't want to have any siblings.

---

Darius' sister Ate Ella came home from Canada for our wedding, and is staying here for more or less ten weeks. She brought along her 10-month old daughter Lia, who has the most adorable curly curls and big round eyes.

Darice is totally enamored with her. She would spend all of her play time with her. After her homework she'd say, "I'll go to Lia na!" then she'll rush off to my sister-in-law's room. Sometime it would be "I'll just see if Lia's awake na" or "I'll just say good morning to Lia" [Yes, ishpokening dolyares ang anak ko].

But then, if I ask her if she wants a baby sister or a baby brother, she'd emphatically answer, "No! I just want a baby cousin!"

---

Darius has also shown his soft side for Lia. He would often bring her to our room and play with her. He even tried to teach her the right way of going down our bed.

But then, I asked him, during one late afternoon when we were on our way home, imagine if we were already rich and stable and have lots of money by then, would he consider having another baby?

He answered, "Dapat nagto-tour na tayo non, kasi di natin alam kung tatagal ka eh" [referring to my *early demise* due to smoking.]

---

The first time that I got pregnant was such a traumatic experience for me. I welcomed the supposed-to-be-good news with shock, fear and indecision. My parents hated me for being a skank and ruining their reputation. Dar was the sweetest guy then, but he could only do so much because he didn't live with me yet.

Even then, I knew I wanted to get pregnant again. I didn't want that to be my first and last experience of infanticapation.

I want to jump for joy when I shout from the bathroom "It's positive!!!" I want to tell all about it to my family and friends with pride and excitement. I want to buy baby clothes, do a baby scrapbook, make a baby blog. I want a big baby shower where all my family and friends will be soooo excited for me. Most importantly, I want Dar to pig out with me (again) as I eat for two, be my driver everywhere I go, and always always always by my side rubbing my big belly while we go to sleep at night.

---

But then, it's two against one. I'll have a hard time convincing Darice to have a baby brother or sister, as she is already comfortable being an only (spoiled brat :P) child. Darius would be harder to convince, as he already feels overwhelmed with responsibility when it comes to Darice.

Maybe I'm just being selfish. They (meaning the two kontrabidang D's) have logical reasons for not wanting another bun in my oven -- that is, adding another human being into our equation means reduced [insert either attention, money, food, free time, etc.] for both of them. I mean, life is so hard these days, having another baby would just result to expenses, expenses and more expenses.

Tama ba sila? Tama naman sila diba?

[I am so shaking my head right now.]

Star Tales

Darice: He's computer-ing.

She was asked by my Mom what my Dad was doing.

Darice: Baka naghahalikan...

The reason why it was taking a long time for me and Dar to open the front door. [Hey! Dirty little minds! I was sleeping and Dar was playing Ragnarok :P]

Darice: Papa, ano yan? *sabay turo*

Dar mistakenly prepares to take a bath in front of Darice.

Darice: *whispers* Mama, panget nya.

A looks-challenged guy sits down next to me.

Darice: Mama, bakit nyo ko lagi inuutusan?

After I've asked her to close the door/lights/throw a piece of trash/get my bag for the nth time.

Me: Bakit anak, pagod ka na?

Darice: Opo. Uutusan nyo kasi ako palagi eh.

Me: O sige. Pero baka mapagod rin ako pag inutusan mo akong bumili ng toy ha.

Darice: *lalong sumimangot* Hmp.

Hehehe. It worked!

Darice turns 5 today! ^_^

I've always wondered why, of all the couples having pre-marital sex out there, God chose me to get pregnant.

I was an *average* college student then. Sure I drank, I smoked, I had sex with my boyfriend. But I go home early every night and studied (most of the time!). I was a responsible bum, a carefree, happy go-lucky nerd. I had enough fun, but had enough work too.

And then, a bombshell.

I went into a funk. I missed exams. I slept most of the day. I really didn't know what to do with my life. I felt that it was unfair of God to make me pregnant, when there were so many other couples out there having sex. What was going to happen?

But then I sobered up.

What was going to happen? Hello!?! I was going to be a MOM!

And instead of thinking that God was unfair, I thanked Him profusely.

Because Darice was given to me.

It may be a bitch being a mom, but it sure is a hella lot of fun!

[And you get lots of hugs and kisses too! For nothing at all!]

P.S. Darice had her graduation rites last March 18, 2005.

I've been tinkering with Photoshop since Thursday, and here are
more layouts.

And yes, as of right now, I'm addicted with the corkboard thing. ^_^

Oh, and Happy Easter y'all!

Darice Star's Upcoming Graduation

Hay salamat tapos na ang school ni Darice. They had their exams nga a few weeks ago, they've been practicing na lang for their graduation.

yoko magsmile!First honor si Darice! Hehehe... nagpaka-stage-mother! So proud of my daughter talaga! Ang galing galing! And she's also the Montessori Awardee daw. I think that award goes to the kid who is smart and has high conduct. Di ako makapaniwala na si Darice yon -- ang batang di gumagawa ng seatwork, di sinusulat ang homework sa HW notebook nya, at tinatamad gumawa ng homework sa bahay.

Sobrang happy kami ni Dar. Parang na-validate lang na we're doing all right with Darice, na we're bringing her up in the right way. Ganon pala yung feeling...

She doesn't want to smile daw kasi she doesn't want to show her teeth. Haay. So bata pa lang eh so vain na! :P

The Long (but bitin) Weekend

Dapat kasi walang pasok hanggang November 2 eh, hmp.

---

We stayed at Fontana for the long weekend. It's been a tradition already for the family, since 1998, to stay there for Halloween, All Saint's Day, and All Soul's Day. What we do is check in there, settle down for a while, then go to Tarlac to visit our dearly departed.

When we were kids, we used to stay in my Uncle's house. We usually have a blast because all our cousins are there, collecting candle drippings and making them into these humongous wax balls. But since our family has grown and grown, di na kami kasya don. And since we've all grown up, or grown older, di na rin keri ni Mommy ang mag-stay don. Besides, it won't be much fun because the cousins my sisters and I play with are now all married and have children. Yup, Darice has second cousins already.

And so the weekend at Fontana.

There was a Trick or Treat for the kids, as usual. Two years ago, Darice went as a witch, and then last year, as a princess (na tinutuhanan talaga nya ang pagkaprinsesa kasi napaka-bratty sya non). Being the craftster wannabe that I am, and having loads of free time, I just made the witch and princess costumes. But this year, being the lazy person that I am, and having tons to do at work, and feeling aches and pains all over my body, she just wore the gown she wore in Ate Ella's wedding. Payag naman sya, and besides, I made her wings naman, to make her look like a fairy princess (actually, she looked more of a butterfly because of those weird wings I made).

She wouldn't have her picture taken during the trick or treat itself (don't ask me why, I'm just her mother =P ) and everytime I'd point the camera at her, she'd say, "No picture, no picture!" Feeling artista ang anak ko noh?!

Well, they had a face painting booth at the event, and good thing Darice wanted me to take a picture of her face painting. Na-excite ang bata.

Ang arte ng anak ko noh? ^_^

---

And so, aside from Trick or Treat, the kids had a blast at the Fontana Waterpark.

With Darice are my cousins, Micah and Toni, who are Darice's Titas already hehehe. (And their mom, my Tita Jing, is already a Lola at a young age of 36 hahahha)

---

You'd think, parang yung mga bata lang nag-enjoy ah.

Actually, I enjoyed the bountiful servings of food last weekend ^_^

My parents and my Tita Jing were the only ones who went to the Tarlac to visit the cemetary (we were currently splashing around with the kids at the water park). And when they got home....

Dinuguan, barbecue, inihaw na tilapia, lechon kawali, all kinds of goat dishes (erm, normal lang ang kumain ng kambing okay?) from our relatives. I thought I was going to faint with all the food. God, how I missed the Ilocano way of cooking (since I am living with Bicolanos - Dar's family - now).

And then for dinner, as if we didn't eat enough for lunch, we ate at Luk Foo. Patatim, spare ribs, peking duck, pancit, yang chao fried rice, beef tenderloin -- it's as if we couldn't have enough food in our stomachs hahahha. But well, since we did eat so much during lunch, we had a few doggy bags when we went back to the villa. (Di rin pala kami ganon katakaw)

---

Ahh yes, a weekend of kabondatan for me and Dar, and a weekend of play for Darice. Good thing pala it did not extend up to November 2 at baka balyena nako ngayon hehehe.

Toodles. ^_^

Avilon Zoo, Part Deux

To those who have been asking where Avilon Zoo is, it's in Montalban. And I'm sorry I can't be more specific because Dar, Darice and I slept on the way to the zoo, and as we left the zoo. But Dar said we did pass by Commonwealth Avenue, then turned right at Litex, then passed Payatas on our way to Montalban. Hope that little information helped.

^_^

Wet and Wild Trip

I took a leave today to accompany Darice, together with Dar, on her field trip.

There were 4 stops on the itenarary: Sugarland, Pag-asa Science Park Planetarium, McDonald's Quezon Ave., and Avilon Zoo. The Sugarland stop was kind of corny because it took about less than 5 minutes to tour the whole plant. Darice slept halfway through the Planetarium lecture (although I immensely enjoyed the lecture on the constellations ^_^). We stopped by McDonald's Quezon Ave for for lunch and a tour of their kitchen.

But it was at Avilon Zoo where we had a real trip. By the time we got there, it was drizzling already. The tour guide said it was a good 2-hour trip. *gulp* So we zipped up Darice in her jacket, brought out our flimsy 75-peso umbrella, and prayed that the rain would stop.

One of the first animals we saw were the miniature horses. Darice was really fascinated with them ^_^

Up next were some deers. Ako mismo nagulat na merong mga deers sa 'Pinas.

Then we went to the aviary. There were a lot of different species of birds, but Dar and I were fascinated by the blue pheasant. [Although, sadness, it doesn't look really blue here in the picture]

On to the amphibians and reptiles.

First, some frogs. That's a horned frog, and the orange-y one is a tomato frog.

And an albino snake. Ayaw lumapit ni Darice, scared sya eh!

There were some turtles, a few alligators (or was it crocs?).

And then after that, we got separated from the group.

Hahaha. Nahaggard kami sa kakahanap sa kanila. We did catch up with another group from the school, but both Darice and Dar were complaining already, and they wanted to go back to the bus. I was still willing to brave the strong drizzle, but I got tired of their whinings.

Di naman obvious na wala na kaming gana noh?

Dear Darice

I have to write this so that you'll know what truly love is.

It wasn't what you saw this morning. There was no love there, Darice. There was only anger, resentment and distrust. Do not ever mistake what you saw as love. I repeat, there was no love there.

So how would you know? I hope this passage from the Bible helps...

1 Corinthians 13:4

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

You know me Darice. I'm not an avid Bible reader, nor do I have a rigorous religous life. But this passage says it all, baby.

And I still believe that the love described is possible, Darice.

I had it once, felt it once, reveled in it once.

That love was when he came over to my house when Mommy found out I was pregnant. That love was when he took care of me when I got sick. That love was when he gave me those roses for no reason at all. That love was when we snuck out of the house and spent a lazy summer afternoon swimming. That love was when he laid down beside me after I gave birth to you. That love was when he held me while I cried, worried that I might not be a good mother to you. That love was when he endured every afternoon visiting us, his child, and the mother of his child. That love was when he finally gave up his other woman and came to get us. That love was when he chose us. That love was when he would hold my hand while we walked to class. That love was when he would put his arms around me while we rode a jeep home. That love was when he would gently touch my hair while I went to sleep.

That was the love I knew.

And where is it now, Darice? Honestly, I really don't know. Time. Time and life just took it all away. I am left with just these, these memories. Time does not heal all wounds, without love, it makes them fester and rot. But love, love will definitely heal all those wounds, those once inflicted, and those worsened by time.

The heart never forgets. It forgives, but it always remembers. Maybe that is why love left us. The heart had too many bad memories, too few good ones. Or maybe there were a lot of good memories, but I chose the bad ones to stay. I'm sorry.

I don't want you to get confused. You might grow up thinking that love behaves a certain way. That love will forgive a certain action, a certain behavior. But if it is truly love, there will be no need to forgive, because no harm will ever be done. Lies will abound when you grow up, pretending to be love, and you will not know it. But you will know love at once, because it has no lies.

I want you to get your hopes up. Yes, you read it right. Expect that love to happen to you. It happened to me! And when you find it, enjoy every moment of it. You deserve nothing less, Darice. Oh, I do want you so much to find that love. Love that is passion and romance and friendship and respect and trust all at once.

But do not mourn over it when it dies, Darice. Because I did, and I still am, and it will just break your heart over and over and over again. It will not leave any good memories, Darice, only the ugliest ones.

Oh Darice, I have so many things to tell you and to teach you. I wish you'd grow up already so that you'd understand. So that I can make you see, that this love I'm talking about, that I'm writing about, will someday come true for you.

And you will love every minute of it.
